The decision about using a piece of writing will often come down to one line. Sometimes I’ll write an entire essay around it, sometimes it will be the thing that gives me the oomph to continue through the yucky first draft.

For the kind of trip we’d never have again, living in an RV for 2 years. But once we left life on the road, I realized just how much adventure was left whether I slept in a house or a trailer.

The continuation of the vignettes turned into a way to remember where we’d been. I can look back and remember things I wouldn’t otherwise, which makes me the richer. It puts a real smile on my face and has me consulting a map on the next one. Whether they are read by anyone other than me, these vignettes have allowed my past to develop into full color and stay that way - despite and because of the sunshine of our attention.
